Feb 16 – Open lecture: Yenenesh Galata

Umeå Association of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with Nordpol and ABF Umeå invites you to a open lecture with Yenenesh Galata on the ever topical issue of how to abate poverty and human suffering in Africa.

The lecture starts at 15:00 in Hörsal D (Samhällsvetarhuset/Lindell) and will be free of charge for members and non-members alike.

Jan 31: Follow up seminar – Humanitarian intervention

Umeå Association of Foreign Affairs invites you to a follow up seminar on last weeks lecture regarding the humanitarian intervention in Libya and the Responsibility to Protect.

Should humanitarian intervention be seen as fundamentally positive or rather as counteracting sustainable peace? Is the doctrine of the Responsibility to Protect a necessary supplement in the tool-box of the International Community or should we respect sovereignty no matter the humanitarian costs? Are there better alternatives?

The seminar will be moderated by Ph. D. student Abrak Saati from the department of political science in Umeå and there will be “fika”.

UpF söker engagerade!

Utrikespolitiska Föreningen (UpF) är en del av Utrikespolitiska Förbundet (UFS). Föreningen är en politiskt- och religiöst obunden förening. Föreningens syfte är att öka medvetandeheten och främja debatten kring internationella frågor. Verksamheten riktar sig främst till studenter men alla är välkomna.

Redaktör

Redaktören ansvara både för webb- och papperstidningen Utpost. Som redaktör bör du vara duktig på att uttrycka dig i skrift samt ha en god stilistisk förmåga. Du ska även kunna leda dina skribenter i deras arbete genom kommunikation och feedback. Redaktören har även ansvaret för att hålla kontakten med Utpost övriga lokalredaktioner.

Ett plus är om du kan design och formgivning/layout, tex. InDesign eller liknande.

PR- ansvarig

PR-ansvarig är ansvarig för marknadsföringen av föreningen samt dess arrangemang. UpF:s marknadsföringskanaler är idag; Facebook, affischer och mailutskick.

Som PR-ansvarig bör du ha kunskap om webb (minst baskunskaper om bloggar/bilder och funktioner som rör dessa), grafisk layout (Adobe/etc.) samt print.

Du bör kunna avsätta ca 6-7 h/vecka till uppdraget.

UFS – representant

UFS-representanten är länken mellan lokalföreningen och förbundet. Som UFS-representant deltar du i förbundets nationella möten och verkar för förbundets framtida utveckling.

JAN 12: Renate Winter: Victims Beyond Boundaries

Renate Winter has served as an international judge of the Supreme court of Kosovo and as a judge of the Vienna Youth Court. She has also served as Acting President of the Special Court for Sierra Leone. Mrs Winter will talk about how children all over the world are being used as free labour or as sex slaves. The lecture will be in English.

The far-right in Europe – Jamie Bartlett

Jamie Bartlett is a researcher and Head of the Volence and Extremism Programme, which looks at a range
of anti-social behaviour (gang culture, knife crime, violent extremism) and researches the norms,
attitudes, and incentives by which they operate Mr Bartlett will discuss his current research project on far-right groups
in 12 European countries. The lecture will be in English!

Victims beyond Boundaries – Renate Winter

Renate Winter has served as an international judge of the Supreme court of Kosovo and as a judge of the Vienna Youth Court. She has served as Acting President of the Special Court for Sierra Leone. Her expertise is on family law, juvenile justice, as well as on women’s justice, pedophilia, child labour and the role of media in advocacy. Since her time as a Judge at the Vienna Youth Court, she has undertaken projects to help rehabilitate youth with addiction problems and mental disability; she has also worked on projects relating to youth and child soldiers for the UN.
Mrs Winter will talk about how children all over the world are being used as free labour or as sex slaves. The lecture will be in English!
