Revolutionen på 4000 meters höjd; rapport från Bolivia – Leandro Schclarek Mulinari

Leandro har skrivit boken Revolutionen på 4000 meters höjd där han berättar om “när fackföreningskämpen Evo Morales vinner presidentvalet i Bolivia 2005 innebär det att befolkningsmajoriteten, ursprungsfolken, för första gången företräds av en person från de egna leden. I den sydamerikanska kontinenten landsätts nu ett radikalt program. Det handlar om att bygga ett nytt Bolivia, fritt från den rasism som genomsyrat samhället alltsedan kontinenten koloniserades. Han kommer också prata kring Bolivia och den politiska utvecklingen som landet går igenom.

Björn Forsberg kommer prata kring temat Tillväxten är över – Hur ställer vi om samhället?”. Björn  forskar kring miljö- och utvecklingsfrågor och är från Vindeln. Han gästar föreningen för att föra en diskussion kring den globala resurskrisen och effekterna på ekonomisk tillväxt. Björn kommer även prata om vad man kan göra på lokal nivå. The democratic development in Africa; the journey is still long – Frank Habineza

30 September, at 3.15pm, Lecture hall B (Lindellhallen), Frank Habineza.

Frank Habineza is the founder and chairman of the poltitical party Democratic GreenPart of Rwanda. The party was formed year
2009. Mr Habineza was born in political exile, in Uganda and was among the first Rwandans to return home after the war and genocide.
He began his involment in enviromental and humanitarian activities at a young age and became more active at High School. He will be visiting us to talk about the democratic development in Africa. The lecture will be in English!

Time to take China seriously – Frédéric Cho

3 October, at 12.15-1pm, Lecture hall B (Lindellhallen) Frédéric Cho.

Frédéric Cho is the Executive Advisor of Handelsbanken and China advisor to the CEO. He will visit us to talk about
China’s role in the global economy and in terms of development. Also talk about the background and give some insight of Chinas economic success and where the country is going when it comes to development.  The lecture will be in English!

Actors for Sustainable Peace – Operation 1325

4 October, At 5-7 pm, Lecture hall A (Lindellhallen), Operation 1325.

Participating: Rita Martin (south Sudan); Kamilia Kuku Kura (Sudan); Margareta Winberg (President UN Women Sweden) and a professor from Umeå university.
The seminar will be about women i conflict areas, women gaining power in peace process and the importance of
womens participation in democratic as well as economic development.
The Association of International Affairs will be collaborating with Operation 1325, which is an umbrella organization for five organisation and collaborats with some other organisations such as WILPF (Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom),Women for Peace, Women’s Council, The Swedish Federation of Immigrant Women’s association and UN Women National Committee Sweden. The organisation raises awareness of resolution 1325 and inform the public about women’s peace work and the importance of implementing resolution 1325 worldwide. They do this by offering training for different target groups, arranges seminars and other activities. A professor from Umeå university will also take part in the debate. The seminar will be in English

Islamofobi och hatet mot muslimer – Mohammad Fazlhashemi

Mohammad Fazlhashemi är forskare och professor vid Umeå Universitet, och författare av böcker som “Vems islam?” och “Islamisk feminism”. Han har också skrivit flera artiklar i lokal och nationell press. Föreläsningen kommer att diskutera intoleranta åsikter om islam, muslimer och den  fientlighet som finns i det västerländska samhället. Föreläsningen är på svenska.

The far-right in Europe – Jamie Bartlett

Jamie Bartlett is a researcher and Head of the Volence and Extremism Programme, which looks at a range
of anti-social behaviour (gang culture, knife crime, violent extremism) and researches the norms,
attitudes, and incentives by which they operate Mr Bartlett will discuss his current research project on far-right groups
in 12 European countries. The lecture will be in English!

Victims beyond Boundaries – Renate Winter

Renate Winter has served as an international judge of the Supreme court of Kosovo and as a judge of the Vienna Youth Court. She has served as Acting President of the Special Court for Sierra Leone. Her expertise is on family law, juvenile justice, as well as on women’s justice, pedophilia, child labour and the role of media in advocacy. Since her time as a Judge at the Vienna Youth Court, she has undertaken projects to help rehabilitate youth with addiction problems and mental disability; she has also worked on projects relating to youth and child soldiers for the UN.
Mrs Winter will talk about how children all over the world are being used as free labour or as sex slaves. The lecture will be in English!
